JIM MCDONNELL LAKE SWIMS

Welcome to the Jim McDonnell Lake Swims and Open Water Clinic. JMLS is a two-day event held each year over Memorial Day weekend in beautiful Lake Audubon in Reston, VA.

Now in our 23rd year, we are continuing to enhance our offerings to make it an exciting experience for our swimmers. The event includes an open water clinic and 1-mile practice swim on Saturday and 1- and 2-mile competitive races on Sunday. In 2010, we will be joining the H₂Open series, a national open water series developed and managed by U.S. Masters Swimming. In 2011, we expect to add a 3-mile race following the clinic on Saturday.

In 2009 we began a quest to be a green event. To that end, we reduced the size of the packets, eliminated distribution of paper advertising (thanks to our sponsors for their cooperation), provided recycling containers at the lake and posted the meet program online and at the venue in place of a large print job. In 2009, ninety-five percent of our entrants chose online entries. That allows us to continue our green trend by eliminating paper entries and providing online entries only for 2010.
