H2Open Series: For 2010, the Jim McDonnell Lake Swims have joined the inaugural H2Open Series, a U.S. Masters Swimming national series of open water events. For more information, please check the series web pages for more information as the season progresses. 

Eligibility: Event is open to U.S. Masters registered swimmers 18 years and older. To register for the event, you must have a 2010 U.S. Masters Swimming registration or purchase a One Event registration (OEVT).

OEVT Instructions: During online registration you will pay the OEVT fee of $20. Next you need to open and print this PDF (also available on your online receipt), fill out all fields (note you must be Unattached for OEVT), sign and mail to Lynn Hazlewood, 1415 Aldenham Ln, Reston, VA 20190, or scan form and email to lynhzlwd@usms.org.

Events offered
    Saturday, May 29 — Open water clinic and 1-mile practice swim (entry limit 400) 
    Sunday, May 30 — 1 and 2-mile races (entry limit 400 per race)

Scoring Divisions: Scoring divisions are divided by gender, five year age groups and wetsuit/non-wetsuit. Wetsuit and non-wetsuit wearers swim together. You may enter only one scoring division for each race distance.

Awards: Awards will be given to 1st through 3rd place for each scoring division.

Entry deadlines:
    No entries for Sunday races accepted after May 23 or date entry limit is reached, whichever comes first.
    
Swimmers entering after May 16 will pay a $10 late fee and be seeded last.
    Walk-in entries for the clinic will pay a $10 late fee.

May 16 — First race closing date (11:59 pm Pacific time)
May 23 — Online entries closed (11:59 pm Pacific time)
May 29 — Clinic walk-in entries accepted until 8:30 am)

Entry fees:    
    Online fees include a $1.50 Club Assistant (CA) fee per swimmer.
    There are NO REFUNDS.

Seeding: Races and clinic are seeded fast to slow using the 1650 yard time. Please make sure your seed time is expressed in minutes and seconds (mm:ss). Illegible or no time entries will be set to 90:00.

T-shirts: Each race entrant will receive a maximum of one free t-shirt with their entry. Registrants may order additional race t-shirts until April 30 at 11:59 pm Pacific time. Cost of extra t-shirts is $15 per shirt.

Food: Lunch will be served on race day.

Host Hotel: Marriott Courtyard Herndon Reston, 1-800-321-2211, $74 per night, mention the Jim McDonnell Lake Swims to get special rate. Online hotel registration is available at the Marriott reservation site. Use the following group codes to choose your room: King Guest Room — JMLJMLA; Double Guest Room — JMLJMLB.

Benefit:  The Jim McDonnell Lake Swims donate a portion of the event proceeds to charity. In 2009, four recipients shared $10,000 in donations. Those organizations were Lymphoma Research Foundation, Reston Interfaith (Promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, quality childcare, and other services), Tender Hearts (Supports children with congenital heart defects) and Naval Special Warfare Foundation (Mission is to provide educational and motivational support, promote health and welfare programs for the Naval Special Warfare Community.
